The fast bowler Poised for a Key Part in Iconic Rivalry

Australian cricket captain

Pat Cummins has secured 309 Test scalps in 71 appearances with an impressive average.

The Australian chief selector the selector has declared that captain Pat Cummins will be a central figure in the forthcoming historic rivalry.

Rumors had circulated that Cummins might miss the series due to a persistent back stress problem that remained unresolved.

Previous updates from the Australian camp suggested no official announcement had been made regarding his involvement, with the Test matches kicking off on 21 November in Perth.

Bailey expressed that the captain is progressing and remained hopeful about his chances of being involved.

"It's clear that time is getting short and multiple considerations around that, not just the physical problem, but further aspects," Bailey remarked.

"It's positive. There's strong faith that he'll participate in a significant role. Hopefully it's the first Test. Otherwise, we'll reassess."

Previous Setbacks

He was sidelined Australia's limited-overs series against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals in the previous weeks after examinations confirmed a lower back issue.

He has a history of recurring issues, with recurrences in multiple past seasons leading to absences from three Australian summers in a short span.

Cummins stated he would be proactive in his approach in his comeback strategy to ensure his availability for the contest.

He mentioned that he did not know if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his rehabilitation but admitted it was "getting tight" for him to recover fully for the initial match.

Alternative Arrangements

If he's unavailable, former captain Steve Smith will take over the captaincy.

All-rounder Cameron Green was withdrawn recently from Australia's squad for their one-day international series against India as a preventive step because of soreness in his side.

He labeled it as a "small issue and stated that Green will play in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "in a good place to be ready to bowl."

"We put so much time has gone into developing the strategy for him to take part for the first Test as an batting and bowling option," Bailey explained.

"His involvement was limited to the initial matches regardless. The way he swings the willow in shorter formats, should it hinder progress for another day, we just made the decision to take a cautious route."
